Talking about TENSES

Tenses is part of grammar we need to understand when we use english for conversation. Why we use it? Talking about tenses in conversation seem very important to distinguish when the action happen. Alright here you go if any one want to see important tenses we use every day. Please see the formula/patern below;

IMPORTANT TENSES (you might use everyday)

Rutin/kebiasaan/kenyataan/masa sekarang
(+) I eat rice
V1
(-) I don’t eat rice
tidak -V1
(?) Do I eat rice? Yes I do/No, I don’t
apakah V1
(+) She eats rice
V1
(-) She doesn’t eat rice
tidak - V1
(?) Does she eat rice? Yes She does/No, I doesn’t
apakah V1

Kalimat tanpa VERB
(+) I am happy
adalah adverb
(-)I am not happy
tidak/bukan

(?) Am I happy? Yes I am/No I am not
apakah

Note: Jika subjek she, he, it maka V1 + s
Jika kalmiat tanpa verb maka harus memakai is, am, are à adalah
Is = she, he, it
Am = I
Are = you, we , they

Verb = kata kerja
Adj. = kata sifat
Noun = kata benda
Adv. = keterangan

LAMPAU
(+) I saw a ghost last night
V2
(-)I didn’t see a ghost last night
tidak –V1
(?) Did I see a ghost last night? Yes I did/No, I didn’t
apakah V1

Kalimat tanpa VERB
(+) He was rich
dulu adalah adj
(-) He wasn’t rich
dulu tidak/dulu bukan

(?) Was he rich? Yes he was/No he wasn’t
apakah dulu

Note : jika kalimat tanpa verb à harus memakai was/were
Yang berarti dulu adalah
Was = I, she , he , it (tunggal)
Were = you, we, they (jamak)

SUDAH
(+) I have cleaned my room
Sudah V3
(-) I haven’t cleaned my room
Belum V3
(?) Have I cleaned my room? Yes, I have/No, I haven’t
Sudahkah V3

Kalimat tanpa VERB:
(+) He has been here
Sudah jadi Adv
(-) He has not been here
Belum jadi
(?) Has he been here? Yes, he has/No, he hasn’t
Sudahkan jadi

Note: Jika kalimat tanpa verb à kata yang berarti sudah adalah has been/have been

Has : she, he, it
Have : I, you, we, they

AKAN
(+) They will move to Bogor
Akan V1
(-) They will not move to Bogor
tidak akan V1
(-) Will they move to Bogor? Yes, they will/No, they will not
akankah V1

Kalimat tanpa VERB:
(+) He will be angry
Akan jadi
(-) He will not be angry
Tidak akan jadi
(?) Will he be angry? Yes, he will/No, he will not
Akankah jadi

Note: jika kalimat tanpa verb à kata yang berarti akan adalah will be

SEDANG
(+) I am watching TV now
sedang V1+ing
(-) I am not watching TV now
Tidak sedang V1+ing
(?) Am I watching TV now? Yes, I am/No, I am not
Apakah sedang

Note : bentuk tersebut juga dapat berarti akan terjadi sebentar lagi


SUDAH SEDANG (MELULU)
(+) I have been sitting for an hour
Melulu V1+ing
(-) I haven’t been sitting for an hour
Tidak Melulu
(?) Have I been sitting for an hour? Yes, I have / No, I haven’t
Apakah Melulu V1+ing

Note: Biasanya bentuk tersebut memakai (since) = sejak atau (for) = selama

SEDANG , LAMPAU
(+) She was sleeping at 7pm yesterday
Sedang lampau V1+ing
(+) She was not (wasn’t) sleeping at 7pm yesterday
Tidak sedang V1+ing
(+) Was she sleeping at 7pm yesterday? Yes, she was/No, she wasn’t
Apakah Sedang
